North Canadian Master Plan

During the next 20 – 30 years, the North Canadian River Corridor will be at the center of an urban renaissance that will breathe new life and vitality into the heart of Oklahoma City. STUDIOARCHITECTURE is at the forefront of that movement. We created a master plan so the river will be able to accommodate thousands of residents during the coming years and can play a much larger role in Oklahoma City’s future.

The Plan

STUDIO laid out a plan for the Corridor to provide recreational opportunities such as trails and bike paths, active and passive park facilities, outdoor performance venues, water sports, and sports exhibitions.

Residents of the corridor will also be provided with housing options, ranging from single-family neighborhoods to town homes and condominiums, for those wishing to live a more urban lifestyle.

The plan includes an outline to promote the revitalization, rejuvenation, and unification of the city’s core neighborhoods and commercial areas through targeted infill and redevelopment, public and private investment, and historic preservation efforts.

As part of the plan, the Corridor will help to support tourism and economic development activities through the addition and retention of high quality cultural, retail, and entertainment facilities. This master plan won an AIA Oklahoma Honor Award in 2006.
